Help Firefighter David Turner & Family

Hello, my name is Wayne Marshall Jr, I was sitting here thinking about what to say on David’s behalf to help him with the Go Fund Me page then it hit me, why don’t I ask him to write his own storyline of what he has been through and what the future holds for him so here it is.

Hi, my name is David Turner, I am from Parksley, Virginia.  I am both a career and volunteer Fire Medic.  I’ve been a member of Parksley Volunteer Fire Company since 2016. I have worked for the Accomack County Department of Public Safety since 2019.  In June of 2022, I went to the hospital for pain that I attributed to a recent fire call when I was volunteering.  However, it was discovered on June 22, 2022, that I had ph+ b-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Since then, I’ve had to undergo an unsuccessful clinical trial and several rounds of intense chemotherapy at VCU in Richmond, VA. I am currently in the hospital receiving a bone marrow transplant, where I will remain for several weeks while my immune system recovers. Once I’m released, I will have to live within 20 minutes of VCU for many months throughout the remainder of my recovery. This means having to rent a second home in Richmond.

I have a cancer predisposition syndrome called Li Fraumeni Syndrome that greatly increases my risk of developing many cancers throughout my life. My mom and sister also had this disorder. My mom, Nikki, passed away in October 2017 from breast cancer at the age 36. Three years later in 2020, my sister, Emma, passed away from brain cancer just days after her 16th birthday.

My 8-year-old daughter has also tested positive for Li Fraumeni Syndrome. In addition to my own treatments, I’ve also had to continue to make sure she gets her regular cancer screenings.  

My family and I would be so grateful for any type of donation, big or small, it will help us get through this difficult time.
