Helping Hand for the Burnet Family

I am raising funds on behalf of a beautiful family, who have been subjected to a heinous crime, leaving them emotionally scarred, but also, without a family car to commute to school and work.

Around 4am the 20th February 2025, a stolen car was crashed, head on into an innocent road user. The 3 heavily armed and masked offenders fled on foot looking for a new getaway car.

They made their way down a side street where they saw and then targeted a 19-year-old, who was sitting in his home garage awaiting his ride to work. They ambushed him wielding a shot gun in his face. Demanding the keys to his mother's Mazda CX-9 that was in the driveway. The young man did his best to deter the armed criminals from entering the home where his younger siblings were asleep.

His mother heard the commotion and entered her garage to find her son being held at gunpoint. That was quickly turned around on her as the offenders could not get her car started. They held her at gunpoint while she got her car started for them to make their getaway.

2 of the offenders were apprehended in a dramatic police chase that ended at North Lakes.

Their vehicle will now be the subject of a police investigation,

By all accounts of the community members who witnessed the dramatic end chase, the vehicle will no longer be drive able when it is returned.

In todays climate, with the increasing cost of living, unfortunately they did not have theft insurance on the vehicle. Leaving the family of 7 without a car to continue their day to day lives.

This is a family who have suffered homelessness, along with many other life challenges, their 14-year-old son recently underwent lifesaving surgery. Both Mum and Dad are extremely hard working, dedicated parents who, no matter what obstacles stood in their way, had a smile on their face and a positive outlook.

This is a family who no matter how hard things are, they will give to someone else in need first.

This heinous act has dealt a significant blow to their family unit, both emotionally and financially.

As a mother myself, I cannot begin to comprehend the feeling of walking into such a confronting scene. The emotional damage this situation has caused this beautiful family, is absolutely heartbreaking.

Any additional funds raised will ensure the family have the resources available to seek the professional help they need, to work through this together.
