Helping Hands - Emergency Fundraiser for Jerry

Hello, my name is Victoria and I'm raising funds for my dear friend Jerry Whitmore to assit him with back rent and monthly medical assistance. As many of you are aware, during the COVID pandemic thousands of people lost their jobs and needed state rental assitance. However, the State of New York failed to assist these people and we are now seeing the after affects. In addition to dealing with his rent issues, he is also fighting for his life and declining health. I love Jerry like a brother and I'm in this fight to the end and ask that you find it in your heart to help....... Here's Jerry's story

Good morning/evening, everyone.

Please allow me to tell you my story, before you judge me.

My name is Jerry Whitmore, I will be 54 years of age this July and I have one son, that means the world to me.

In 2019/2020 covid hit and changed the world including mine. I lost my job and just about everything seems to have been falling down from there on. It hit home and just made things a mess. I was working from home (Remote) as everyone else was, and that call came in with that “sorry your position is no longer needed”. Losing my job, I now had to get on my back-up reserve plan to make things happen for me and my son. We just moved into a new place and were doing well, until I received devastating news and things took a turn for the worst.

In February of 2020 I felt a lump in my neck and kept getting headaches, so I went to the hospital and had to stay for a couple of days, to be diagnosed with Cancer (Leukemia Lymphoma). From what I understand it has been in my system for a while. As I had worked down near the World Trade Center for over 13 years; I joined the 9/11 relief fund after speaking with my doctor as he believed that this may have come from working down there.

But the chemo and Therapy cost was killing me. I tapped out my 401k to keep things afloat, as I no longer had steady income and bills started to pile up quickly.

I contacted my management company and explained that I was having trouble paying my Rent and if there was anything that I could do to reduce my rent. They told me to join the NY State Rental Relief Fund, as it was designed to help New Yorkers at this time who are having trouble paying their rent. So, I filed for assistance!! For 2 years the management company didn’t tell me about the state not paying the bill, as it was still pending. Well, I just received a 30-day notice asking for the 2 years of rent in the amount of $33.000 dollars. They say God will give you nothing you can’t handle and he will give his strongest warriors his toughest battles. Well today this warrior is asking for any help and relief you can give to meet this goal before 30 days.

Again, I have never done this and I was talked into this, so I’m trying my best. I ‘m very humbled and much appreciated for any and all help.
