Helping Hands for Gary Giem

My name is Laura Booton and I am one of Gary Giem’s former students and friend. Many in the Denver and Los Angeles theatre and film communities know Gary Giem for his acting work on soap operas and television series; however, most of us know him from his time teaching and directing musicals at Loretto Heights College.

In recent years, life has presented Gary with numerous challenges. During the last 9 months, he has experienced homelessness, and his car was stolen with all his belongings inside. He has also faced health issues during this time. It was at that point that I and fellow Loretto Heights College alums realized that we needed help from our wider community.

Gary has been much admired for his enthusiasm for the creative process. His mentoring reached beyond his time at Loretto Heights driven by his affinity for developing young performing artists. Many of us don’t realize the scope of influence Gary had on his students and colleagues throughout the years. Beyond his involvement in the Arts, Gary is simply a regular guy who has been able to pivot in response to any challenge that was presented to him, from moving furniture to the role of a College Professor. Gary has always enjoyed engaging with all kinds of people, from artists to folks of all interests. One of Gary’s loves, antiquing, was expressed through his regular participation at Denver’s many Antique Markets.

I am happy to report that Gary has landed in a safe place, and this fund is an effort to provide additional help, to past efforts of friends and family who have supported him. On behalf of his family, this GoFundMe is being created to assist in providing Gary with funds to meet his daily needs.
