Helping Jay Garrity’s cancer treatment bills
Jay Garrity, 45, is married to his wife Robin, and they have two adult sons Jay Jr and Justin. Jay grew up in Attleboro and married Robin, his high school sweetheart, and together moved down to Naples FL in their early 20’s. Jay’s parents Mary and Ed had already moved down to FL from MA before that.
2021: Jay had a sore throat for about a month and a half. He contributed it to wearing his mask at work. In addition, he lost about 50 lbs off his 210 lb frame within a month or so time. He went to his doctor and found out he has stage 3 throat cancer. He and Robin were stunned (the docs said that this tumor is not, despite Jay’s assumptions, due to smoking). Jay immediately needed to gain his weight back and was given a feeding tube with a prescription for formula that costs $450. His Aetna insurance is not covering much of his treatment and copays are high. Their savings and credit cards are depleted.
Jay is going through 35 radiation treatments. He is on #14 with 21 left. Mid way through radiation doctors will determine if he needs additional chemotherapy, IF he can keep his weight up. Jay’s tumor is wrapped around the nerve going to his left ear. After treatments each day Jay reports that his left ear is extremely painful and has trouble seeing out of his left eye. He is very, very uncomfortable day to day.
Jay currently requires an insertion of a tracheotomy to allow him increased ability to breathe. It is difficulty for him to sleep. Robin is awake most nights worrying over Jay. To get the trach inserted Jay will need to be admitted to the hospital for 6 days and the hospital requires $2600.00 to even schedule the surgery because Aetna’s family deductible has reset.
Any contribution to Jay and his family is appreciated. Jay is a hardworking guy and cannot believe he has found himself and his family in need of help. So, I am stepping up and asking for help for good people who need the help of friends and family. Thank you.
