Helping Kelly Spooner Beat Breast Cancer

In late October, my mum was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. The chemotherapy has been debilitating at times with more chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation and months of rehabilitation yet to come. Mum has not worked since her diagnosis, but the bills haven't stopped. We have been hit with the cost of gap payments following surgery, extra medications and ongoing physiotherapy bills of hundreds of dollars each month so that Mum can try to get full movement back in her arm again following surgery to remove her lymph nodes.

It would mean the world to our family for Mum to be able to afford to stay home from work a little bit longer.  As a single parent, we don't have any other way to earn an income.

Mum is a respiratory nurse.  The thought of her returning to work whilst going through chemo, especially with the sudden occurrence of the coronavirus that is detrimental to people with weakened immune systems, makes me really worried. As does the risk of her contracting the flu, pneumonia or another infection.

Mum is always the first person to help others.  Apart from being a nurse, she has helped the homeless, raised money for charities such as Legacy, collected items for hostels and organised a huge donation drive for the people of Vanuatu when the cyclone hit.
