Helping Kristi Kick Cancer
Donation protected
Our dear friend Kristi, well-known to many as an educator, counselor, wise voice, supporter, and generally most excellent person is facing a hard road through her second battle with lymphoma. She and her family need our help, and any contribution you can make will be most sincerely appreciated, and will directly support medical and other associated expenses in this fight. Kristi has always been there for any of us when we needed help, and now we have the chance to pay her back in a very real and necessary way.
Kristi was first diagnosed with Large B cell Non Hodgkin Lymphoma in September 2015, after suffering back pain that turned out to be a large cancerous tumor pressing on her spine. Emergency surgery took place, and she was diagnosed with lymphoma. Kristi, with the support of her family and friends, battled through chemotherapy and radiation. In September 2016, she received a diagnosis of an inoperable mass on her brain that fortunately was ultimately determined not be cancerous. Kristi was considered cancer free, and we all celebrated with her. She and her husband Mark were able to fulfill a lifelong dream and moved to Venice, Florida to begin second careers in education.
In the fall of 2018, Kristi noticed masses in her neck and abdomen, and was suffering increasing pain. She had just taken a position working at Charlotte High School as an English teacher. It was not until January 2019 that Kristi and Mark were informed that the lymphoma had recurred, and she was again facing the hard fight against this terrible disease. She is currently being treated at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa which is a three hour round trip from her home in Venice. She has undergone two rounds of intensive chemotherapy, and has had more surgery to remove tumors. She is now preparing for a stem cell transplant. Kristi will need to stay in Tampa for at least 30 days. The costs associated with this transplant, and with the associated travel, hotel, and other expenses are high. Insurance is not covering all of her medical bills. Kristi and Mark are far away from family and friends, and although they have formed a good circle of acquaintances and colleagues in Florida, and the prayers from everyone have been a constant source of strength, her long-time friends who love and care for her so much cannot be on hand to offer direct support.
Kristi is a beloved mom and grandmother, as well as a wonderful friend. We hope that you will be able to support her through a donation to her Go Fund Me account. These donations are not tax deductible, but they are crucial to Kristi and her family, and will help to relieve any worry and stress about the financial burden they are facing. This will allow Kristi to focus on what is most important to all of us – a full recovery and a return to a healthy, cancer free life.
