Helping Little Sunny James
Donation protected
We have started this page as many people keep reaching out and asking how they can help support Jess, Tristan and little Sunny as they navigate this time in the NICU.
Sometimes things just aren’t easy … even for the most deserving of people. Jess and Tristan have dreamed of little Sunny for a lifetime. Through 9 years of trying, many rounds of IVF and lots of heartache, Jess and Tristan, on what may have been their last round of IVF and seemingly against the odds were finally going to have their turn to be parents.
At 20 weeks Jess was told that Sunny had severe ‘Intrauterine Growth Restriction’ (IUGR), which means that Sunny was measuring very tiny- on the first percentile tiny. Doctors explained it would be unlikely she would make it to the 28-week mark and that Sunny would need to make a very early entrance into the world.
While navigating through this hard news and trying to emotionally prepare Jess was also trying to spend as much precious and beautiful time as she could with her amazing Dad, Kyle. Sadly, he passed away on the 16th of July and the very next day she was admitted to the hospital. There she spent three weeks with a very special photo of her Dad right by her side, being monitored daily to attempt to get little Sunny to the 28 mark.
Sunny defied the odds again and made it to 28 weeks and 3 days.
On the 5.8.23, little miracle Sunny came into this world at a tiny 670g and ready to fight. In his 4 weeks of living earth-side he has fought through many challenges including:
- Collapsed and immature lungs requiring ongoing breathing support and steroids.
- Chronic lung disease.
- A PDA of the heart requiring risky medication.
- Meningitis
- Blood infections
- Gastrointestinal bleed
- Hernia’s that will eventually require surgery
- Low sugar and cortisol requiring steroid treatment.
But in all this, he has had his amazingly beautiful loving parents right by his side. Reminding him just how strong, brave, and loved he is.
Sunny has a long road ahead and will continue to need specialised care and support until he is big enough and strong enough to go home and meet his BIG, but beautiful doggie brother and sister. They’ve been told the best case scenario won’t be until his actual due date the 25th of October.
Sunny may be small but he is mighty and already has a huge community behind him…a community that both Jess and Tristan have always been willing to help and hold. They are the kind of people you know you can always count on and who are always willing to be there for others in need. We would love to be able to now, help hold them up a little during this time.
Funds raised will be used to help with the ever-growing amount of bills rolling in and to help support Sunny's ongoing care in the NICU. It will also allow Jess and Tristan to continue to be by Sunny’s side without having to worry about all the other stressors at the moment.
Thanks so much for any donations given we know that Jess and Tristan will be overwhelmingly grateful for each and every one. If you are unable to donate at this time we understand, but would be so grateful and appreciative for even just share of this page.
