Helping Liz Heal

As many of you already know, one of my best friends, Liz, was abducted/robbed by a man posed as an Uber driver on Friday night.  She was picked up from the the Park MGM Casino(formerly known as the Monte Carlo hotel) around 3AM by a man with a similar make and model of the car that was supposed to pick her up. She asked if he was here for Liz and he said, “yes, get in.” 5 minutes into the ride, her real Uber driver called her cell phone asking where she was. Her heart dropped and she feared for her life.

He drove her to an alleyway behind an Albertsons, cursing and screaming at her to leave all of her stuff including her wallet and cell phone. She threw her wallet at him but kept her phone and opened her door to get out, but before she could exit he started speeding off.  Not knowing what other options she had, she managed to jump out of the moving car (going about 35-40mph) before he could take her with him once more. She immediately called 911. Although she escaped and will be okay, she has a long road to recovery ahead of her.

Liz was rushed to Sunrise Hospital where she immediately went in for emergency surgery to have a rod and screws placed in her ankle. She suffers from a broken ankle, a fractured wrist, and staples in her head. She will be out of work for six-eight weeks as she rehabilitates her body and begins the healing process. She also has the burden of over $35,000 of unexpected hospital bills to worry about.

Thank you all in advance for your generosity as Liz goes through this traumatic experience. Every little bit helps and we appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers we are receiving. Please pass this on and warn your friends and families to always verify who they are getting in the car with. She has been working so hard to spread awareness on this issue so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else. Her Facebook post has since gone viral and she plans to go on the local news stations to warn as many people as she can. We could have never anticipated this happening in a world where we become complacent with repetition and our surroundings. She is warning others to take extra precautions when it comes to taking Uber. Her post could save a life and we’re proud of her for being brave enough to share her story.
