Helping Lucille's Pigeons

Hi, my name is Christy and I'm raising funds to help build aviaries for 80 pigeons that need to be rescued from a difficult situation. Lucille, age 77, recently broke her hip and femur. She has rescued animals throughout her life, is widowed and can no longer care for the pigeons her late husband left behind.

I was contacted by an animal care officer who knows I rescue pigeons to see if I could help (I have dozens of pigeons and cannot take more). Nobody wants to see these birds euthanized, which is what often happens in these situations.

These beautiful, healthy birds are domestic pigeons so they cannot just be released to fend for themselves. They do not know how to find their own food and would also be targets for predators (they have lost most of their wild instincts - a good analogy would be a chihuahua compared to a coyote).

I have recruited some volunteers to care for Lucille's birds on-site every few days, but this is not a long-term solution. These birds need new homes and it won’t be easy with 80 of them! The best solution is to fund materials to build an enclosure for anyone willing to take a good portion of these birds. This is a model I've used successfully in the past. We can make this happen with your help! We may also need funds for vet care (we are evaluating each bird individually on 8/20) and food (they have only been fed chicken scratch). Thank you!
