Helping Matt! Matt McGlashan, STFX Class of '19

Matt McGlashan is a member of our Students' Union team at STFXU. Known for his iconic cloud of curly hair and living out of his converted van, he is a bright spot in our office.

 

Matt was rushed to the Emergency Room on Jan 3rd where it was discovered that he had Metastatic Testicular Cancer that had spread to several points in his pelvic region and his lungs, left parietal lobe, and cerebellum. Matt’s cancer required immediate treatment to provide the best chance of recovery.

 

He will be undergoing chemotherapy over the next 3 months, and has been advised that this is just the beginning of treatments. Further rounds of chemo may be needed, as well as surgery to remove any remaining masses to avoid the future chance of relapses in his cancer.

 

Matt needs our help, and in true Xaverian fashion, that is what we are going to do!

This gofundme account will go directly to Matt to help pay for medical expenses, treatments, accommodations, travel for his family (Matt's family lives in Ontario) and any other resources he may need to focus on recovery.

Ever the optimist, Matt works hard to stay as positive as possible through this difficult process. As an young stand-up comedian he has already begun writing jokes to try and find any levity he could for himself and those around him, but each day is different, often bringing new challenges. Some mornings he wakes up thinking he could take on the world, but becomes bedridden by the afternoon. Others he wakes up to a wall of resistance that feels insurmountable, leaving him feeling fatigued and weak.
