Helping Mel Get Well

A week ago, two very dear people, Mel and Lonie Walczak, got the horrific news that no one should ever have to hear. Mel was diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer. Mel and Lonie are the most caring and giving individuals that anyone could have been blessed with in their lives. Mel and Lonie are always willing to help people out no matter how big or small their issues are. Mel has always been a fighter and is ready to fight this horrible disease not only for himself, but his wife, children and grandchildren. Mel has served our country with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Navy, Mel then went on to to serve in the US Air Force. After 24 years of service in the military, Mel went on to help shape our future generations by working for the local school district in Columbia. Mel recently retired from the school district and since then, money has been tight. Mel and Lonie are not ones to ask anyone for anything, but after receiving the devastating news, they are in need of help. After speaking with his doctor in Columbia, it was recommended that Mel go to the specialists at MD Anderson Cancer Centers in Houston TX. Mel and Lonie are hoping that the trip to Houston will not only result in a specialized treatment plan, but also will give them the strength and hope that they need to face this fight head on . While Mel is ready to fight this disease to the fullest extent, he is also worried about other living expenses that need to be taken care of.
