Helping Mr Thomas

Donation protected
As many know I do outreach in okc and came across a man sleeping in hospital scrubs on a sidewalk. It took me a couple days to get enough to get him a room but once I got him there and began getting to know him I am outraged at his situation.

Mr Thomas came from a loving home. His parents were good people. His father was in the Air force. His mother retired from Department of Corrections. Mr. Thomas was deemed disabled before the age of 25. He lived at home with his parents until his last living parent passed. She had gotten him a new payee through a non profit financial organization when she found out her cancer would take her sooner then she had thought.

Mr. Thomas was with his mom at St Anthonys when she passed. He was given a bag of her belongings and left walking. He didn't know how to get home and Mr. Thomas is so smart but so childlike and he can answer anything but doesn't know to ask or tell you anything. He has wandered in shelters, a nursing home, and side walks around town for the last 6 years until I found him.

Mr. Thomas unfortunately did lose the house his mom left him due to foreclosure but he had no idea, he thought it had burned down. Mr. Thomas has not received his disability in 6 years and we are getting that situated but that takes time. A hotel isn't ideal but he has made so much progress and we are so hopeful. Thankfully community members have been helping and all his other needs are meet. He is going to need his room while we continue to resolve his situation.

I spend every day with him and I am so thankful we have gotten this far I just pray we can continue. I was also able to locate his only living brother who was just in Okc right before I found Mr Thomas. He lives in Japan and isn't able to just come right back. He does call almost daily and helped us to get Mr. Thomas birth certificate which will be here in a couple weeks.

I am still trying to get his story heard because he fell through the many holes in our system. I am still in disbelief no one asked him about himself all these years.

Mr. Thomas loves model cars and his music. He is so sweet and finally has the closest thing he has to a home in years. We have been paying weekly at 380.00. This amount is to cover his room by the month and any thing else he may need.
