Helping my sisters battle with ALS
Donation protected
For my sister, Rebecca, AKA Boo Boo, Becki, or her favorite title, Auntie Boo Boo.
At the end of 2022, my sister noticed a stutter she grew up having as a kid came back. We didn't think much of this as it is common for stutters to come back in your adult life.
In January of 2023, she started to fall at random times. Her falling had increased after a few months and was followed by extreme fatigue. Soon she was not able to make it through an 8-hour shift at work, so she decided to see a Dr where they had referred her to a neurologist at the U of U. They weren't able to schedule her with a specialist until June and during her wait, her mobile ability kept decreasing.
The specialists did some testing and had another follow-up set for 07/25 to go over her results. Becki went into her appointment anxiously awaiting to find some answers to all that had been going on. She was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. This diagnosis came as a shock to us all. To have been waiting on an answer in hopes of a resolution and to be told that you have a terminal disease at the young age of 33 has been crushing to us all. There's no cure for ALS. We are still trying to wrap our heads around what is happening and everything is moving so fast and so slow at the same time.
My sister is a fighter and wants to keep fighting but we need your help. She reached out to the ALS Clinic at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD to see if she can be a candidate for their ALS clinical studies. She was granted an appointment on 10/08/2023 at noon. She has not been able to work and has been staying at the U of U for testing to see which variant she has and how far along she is in the progression of this disease. She will then move to a rehab facility for a minimum of 14 days so they can try and help her maintain and slow the degeneration of her muscles. The doctors have advised her to go on permanent disability, which is a very lengthy process.
It would be a huge help if we could raise enough to purchase the plane tickets and rental vehicle for my sister and my mom so they can make it to their appointment on 10/08. Any donations at all would be greatly appreciated during this sudden and difficult time.
