Helping Officer Domagala with his cancer battle

Donation protected

Mike Domagala is married with 4 children, daughters (5,12 and 23) son (16), wife is a stay at home mother.  Mike is a  Police Officer and started his career in Fox River Grove in 2002 and moved to the Lake In The Hills Police Department in 2012 where he is employed today.

Since being diagnosed in July 2020 with Multiple Myeloma (rare blood cancer) not curable but treatable, Mike has had a pelvic biopsy, two bone marrow biopsies, blood work, PET scans, CT scans, and MRI's. Mike has gone through 4 cycles of chemotherapy which started on August 4th.  Depending on how treatment has been going he is scheduled to have a stem cell transplant early December. Many tests are needed to see if he is a candidate for the stem cell transplant such as, blood work, bone marrow biopsy, PET scan, MRI, pulmonary exam, echo-cardiogram, EKG and vein evaluation. If he qualifies the goal is to use his own stem cells which consists of injecting stem cells into his body and them harvesting them. A catheter will be placed in his chest and harvesting of the stem cells will be 8-10 hours a day for up to possibly 4 days straight. If successful, he will be admitted to the hospital for the transplant which a high dose of chemotherapy will be administered and then the stem cells injected. His system is basically going to be re-started and the first 2 weeks are crucial as his immune system will be compromised. He will be in the hospital for up to 3 weeks and then have to stay at a housing facility near the hospital for up to another 3 weeks. He will have testing/blood work 2-3 times a week for about 3 months after transplant. Due to Covid precautions family is not currently allowed at the hospital.

Due to this illness he will temporarily be unable to work his full time position at the police department for approximately 5-6 months or longer. Some of these medical treatments, medications and expenses are not going to be covered by insurance and expenses for travel and extended stays for treatments near the hospital will be significant.

Mike maintains a strong fighting spirit and finds his strength in his love for his family.  Mike's greatest concern is in continuing to provide for his family while he covers all of his uncovered medical  expenses.   The funds raised will go directly towards his medical expenses, travel expenses for treatments and to help his family with everyday expenses through this difficult time. Prayers and or any donation would be greatly appreciated.
