Helping One of Our Own - Steve Haas

Hi! My name is Kim Smith, and I am organizing this GoFundMe for my dear friend, Steve Haas.

Approximately 3 years ago, Steve's older sister had a stroke leaving her in a wheelchair with left-sided paralysis. Learning she would need help 24/7, Steve chose to quit his job and take care of her so she would not need to go to a nursing home. Using his savings, he split the cost of their apartment, utilities, groceries, etc. with his sister. Over the past month, his sister has unexpectedly deteriorated, leaving her with minimal movement and with very little ability to communicate. What little she says is not understandable or doesn't make sense. She can no longer eat and has to be fed through a tube going into her stomach. The doctors are baffled as none of the tests give them a conclusive answer as to what happened. Now a nursing home is not an option but a necessity. They are currently looking for a facility that can take her. Until then, she remains in the hospital.

After 3 years, Steve's savings are gone. Due to his own medical issues, he cannot return to work. He has started the disability paperwork for himself, but the process takes time. He has no other family to count on. This being the case, he is facing eviction with nowhere to go. Donated funds will go to Steve to cover his monthly bills (rent, utilities, food, etc.) for the next 12 months while he waits on disability to come through.
