Helping Our Beautiful Friend Meka!!

Update: Friends and family,

I wanted to let you know that Meka is out of the hospital and home, getting ready to start PT and OT. Though she is home (thank goodness), her journey is just beginning. Dearest friends and family,

As many of you know or are just learning, our beautiful friend Meka was involved in multi-vehicle accident on July 11th. She was struck by a driver under the influence, driving on the opposite side of the road, who jumped the median and hit her car causing a head on collision. First responders were forced to extricate Meka out of her vehicle and rushed her to Northside hospital.

It has been an extremely frightening situation as she sustained life threatening injuries. She was in ICU and taken off a ventilator on Thursday night. Meka had major surgery on her left knee, ankle, and had internal bleeding which led to a complicated surgery on her intestines. Additionally, Meka sustained 6 broken ribs, a broken shoulder not to mention the emotional and physical trauma that this has presented.

By the grace of God, her guardian angel, and Meka’s own strength, she survived! Although auto insurance covers a portion, there are many unexpected and out of pocket expenses that are not covered as everything is still being sorted out.

As a result of the accident, Meka’s car is a total loss, impacting her ability to work, do basic things like dress herself, bathe etc… without assistance. The trauma from the accident has impacted her physically as well as emotionally and will continue to affect her for an extended period of time. Meka is not the only one impacted by this horrific situation. She has a wonderful, caring, and thoughtful son, Donavin, who lives with her, needs his mother, and will do all he can to see her through this ordeal.

The road to recovery will be long, extensive, require rehabilitation services, and her income will be impacted greatly as she is unable to work. Meka is an amazing, caring, funny, loving, lift your spirits type individual who could use our support to help her get back to being there for her family, friends, and co-workers. We need her smile and loving personality!
