Helping Our Dad get the Medical Care he needs
Donation protected
I never in a million years expected this to happen, but it did.
After several unanswered phone calls and text messages, I went to check on my father on the morning of June 24, 2020. When I arrived at my father’s home, I found him unresponsive in his bed. He appeared to have fallen ill while cooking as his stove was on and the food in the pot was burnt. I immediately sought medical attention for him and he was transported to the local hospital. After arriving to the ER, he was found to be in hemorrhagic shock due to a large bleeding ulcer in his stomach. He was placed on mechanical ventilation for 10 days and transfused five units of blood to save his life. He was transferred to the medical intensive care unit where he spent a little over 2 weeks.
On July 4, I received additional devastating news that my father had also suffered a stroke and would require extensive rehabilitation over the next several months to years. He is no longer able to walk, talk, or eat without assistance of a feeding tube. He still has not had the large ulcer in his stomach addressed. His doctors informed me that his ulcer is likely malignant (cancerous) in nature and he would require surgery at a later date to remove the ulcer. However, because he is not able to have the surgery to remove the ulcer he cannot start medication (blood thinner) to prevent him from having another stroke. His neurologist informed me that my father is at high risk for another stroke to occur and if my father has another stroke it would likely be fatal.
My father does not have full coverage health insurance and the hospital bills are piling up. This is tough for my siblings and I because we want to do more but we are limited with our time and financial resources. I started this Go Fund me account because I feel that healthcare is a universal right and that no one should suffer or die due to inability to pay for care.
From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and if possible please give a donation (any amount will help).
Due to current circumstances around COVID-19, the facility that my father is in has a zero visitor policy. This makes this experience even more traumatic as my siblings and I are now not able to see our Dad at all.
I will continue to give updates to donators as I receive them.
Thank you and please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
