Helping Paws Rescue - Kennel Renovation

Hi, My name is Teresa and I operate Helping Paws Rescue (with a lot of help from our volunteers) in Vienna, Ontario, Canada. www.helpingpawsrescue.ca We rescue dogs from local shelters, puppy mills, and we do take in some owner surrenders, as well as emergency cases. We have been rescuing dogs since 2003 and are very grateful for the community's support and volunteers who help us out. To date, we have rescued and found homes for 1,029 dogs and counting, something we couldn't have done without the tremendous support of our followers. The need for rescues has increased dramatically in the last year, as there are many overbreeding, expecting "sales" to be the same as they were 1-2 years ago during covid. However the opposite is true. More dogs are being abandoned/surrendered than ever, as owners go back to work and lives get back to normal, they are finding they don't have time (their dogs are not a priority). So not only are dogs being surrendered by owners but also the puppy mills and irresponsible breeders who tried to keep making money with their breeding operations, but now can not sell their puppies.

We rely on fosters for most of our dogs but we do have 3 kennels that house some of the larger dogs who need more training and socializing. These kennels have not been updated in many years and are in desperate need of replacing, they have rotted off at the bottom and 1 of them is unable to house a dog any longer. The estimate to replace these kennels is $2,800 Luckily my husband is handy and can help with any renos and construction. But we do need the supplies. Pressey Construction has suggested a complete rebuild of the kennel to accommodate 3 rescue dogs, a wash station (so that we can wash & groom all of our rescue dogs to save money), storage for supplies and food, office/meeting room. This will make it possible to meet potential adopters in an area AND have a work area which can be open to the public to come and visit the dogs. (which has never been possible in the past). I am so excited about this possibility. However even though the labour is free, the materials are not. We try to be as frugal as we can with supplies but sometimes we can not substitute or buy used. For this reason we are asking for your support. We have raised enough money for the outdoor kennels!! With your help, we can build a facility that will enable us to help more dogs.
