Helping Rachel after Loss of Her Father & Brother
Donation protected
This fundraiser is to help poet & organizer Rachel McKibbens navigate an unimaginable tragedy.
Rachel recently lost her father and brother to COVID-19 within the span of seventeen days. The story of their deaths has since become a shocking and cautionary tale shared worldwide. In an effort to spread awareness about the lethal repercussions of misinformation about the COVID vaccines, Rachel shared images of her brother Peter’s final text conversations with a family member, providing harrowing insight into the misguided efforts to battle the coronavirus without medical intervention .
It seems impossible for this situation to get any worse, but it has. Peter did not have a will, making their estranged biological mother his legal next-of-kin. A third and stunning blow. This woman abandoned both children as infants and has stalked, threatened and harassed Rachel and her small family for nearly four decades. Sadly, the torment extended into their adult years. In a text sent just six days before his passing, Peter explained why he couldn’t leave the door open/unlocked for Rachel to deliver him meals or to circulate fresh air in the house:
As he was dying, their "mom" getting into the house was still a concern to him.
Within 8 hours of being notified of Peter’s passing, the woman was filmed breaking into the home of Rachel’s deceased father and removing numerous items from the house for over an hour.
She has since changed the locks on the house and falsely claims her estranged son (who isn’t named on the deed) signed it over to her.
She also informed the coroner she would “not make arrangements for Peter" until Rachel's private contact information is given to her. A vicious tactic by a serial abuser. Rachel's newest fear is that she won't be able to lay her brother to rest as he wished, alongside their dad.
It is Rachel’s intention to ensure this person does not benefit from the death of the child she abandoned. What could have been a clear, cut and dry probate case will undoubtedly be a drawn out legal fight. The emotional impact of this, on top of both tragic losses, is shattering.
For two decades, Rachel has been a vigilant misfit, championing under-served communities as an organizer and outspoken poet, writing candidly about mental health awareness and being a survivor of DV and unfathomable childhood traumas.
We wish to open up space for Rachel’s grief and healing by lessening the financial blow of pending legal battles and funeral costs, assisting her in securing adequate grief counseling for herself and her children and helping her take time off work to get some much-needed rest.
Thank you, dearly, for helping us make this happen.
