Helping Rebuild My Aunts Salon

My aunt has owned a nail and hair salon called Mimi’s Salon in Saint Paul, Minnesota for the past 6 years. On May 28th 2020, Mimi’s Salon was significantly looted and vandalized. Unfortunately, looters broke in through the back door, stole valuable goods and left the store destroyed.

About my Aunt: My Aunt(wearing the red dress), Mimi Letta is from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where her and my mom (wearing the blue dress) immigrated to the United States for better opportunities for themselves and their families. They both came here with nothing and put in blood, sweat and tears to get to where they are now. Eventually, my aunt got a job working in a salon and after working extremely hard and saving up, she left and opened her own salon. She’s been in the salon industry for the past 15 years. I’ve never met someone who loves what they do as much as her. My aunt has sacrificed so much and has worked tirelessly to serve the community she loves. This business and her clients meant so much to her.

As an Ethiopian-American, our family whole-heartedly supports the Black Lives Matter movement. Unfortunately, many small businesses and black-owned small businesses like our salon have been affected by looters who have taken advantage of the BLM protests. We support the people who want to change our society and to stop the systemic oppression against black people.
