Helping Scotty Heal!

Hi all, for those that don't know me, my name is Sarah Ward and I am starting this Go Fund Me for my family who are in need of some help right now!

I know this is probably a shock as we haven't made this public yet, but our full of life, fun-loving brother-in-law Scotty suffered a stroke just over two weeks ago, something none of us were expecting. At first, we were told the stroke was mild however as his days in hospital progressed, his symptoms worsened and Scotty had to have emergency brain surgery on Monday 9th September.

As they took him away to operate we feared the worst as a family, as they warned us without the surgery we would certainly lose Scotty, but the surgery itself was going to be touch and go also. After four excruciating hours, Scotty came out of surgery but did have to have a section of his brain removed which had died. This is the part of the brain which controls the balance and for us, the long term effects are still very much an unknown.

To top this all off, we have just found out that Scotty has also contracted Meningitis and is now being heavily treated for this with antibiotic and antiviral medication. This is a set-back but one we know Scotty will push through, however this in turn pushes back the plan to have him moved to rehab this week.

We hope as Scotty recovers from the meningitis, we will then be able to move him to rehab. We are told that initially we are looking at a 3-4 month initial recovery, but this is just a guess really at this stage.

I am hoping that we can all dig deep as right now, the financial future for the Johnson family is a big unknown right now. We don't know how long Scotty's recovery will take, we don't know how long Karen will be staying by his bedside to look after him and in turn not working herself. We don't know what the medical costs moving forward are and we don't know what we will have to do to ensure that Scotty can come home and live safely as he recovers. The builders are visiting to look at handrails and ramps, but this is just the beginning of a very very long road.
