HELPING SHARE LAKOTA ARTISTS CULTURE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY
"There's Gold in Them Thar Hills!" But it's not the gold of Rodeo Drive or Tiffany's. The gold is the life and culture of the Lakota people at Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
This is a photographic excursion capturing the iconic mythological spirit of the Lakota painter, sculptor, and craftsman. Through the camera lens, I not only want to bring the image to life, but the story. The story of everyday people and the story behind the individual artist’s work.
There are new and exciting voices being expressed in that art world and it's an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to share and bring this work to light.
FEATURE PHOTO: The "WACIPI" (PowWow) ... A time for gathering of Friends and Family...A Celebration of "Life, Hope, and Happiness". A time where the importance of the culture is passed down from the elder family member to the young children through rich and colorful song and dance.
