Helping Stephen to feel safe - Tri-ride chair adaptions

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I wanted to find away to help my little brother Stephen.. On the 21.10.2023 his life completely changed.. he fell 30ft from a wall and is now paralysed from the upper chest down. Stephen is only 32 years old and his whole world change within a matter of minutes. Stephen was a very talented painter and decorator and loved his job beyond the normal person, but due to this accident this job is no longer possible for him to complete which has means income has changed drastically.

The NHS are supplying him with a basic wheel chair ( which he is more than grateful for) but due to the damage to his spinal cord he suffers from serve spasms.. and at present his wheel chair isn't adapted to help him keep completely safe. The cost of adaptions and extras for a wheel chair is more expensive that what we have or can/ could possibly save in the next few weeks / months. I am hoping that maybe people who know him and love him can maybe give him a few pound so that he can get this adaptions... As he will be released soon from Hospital and and wants more than anything to live independently and live his life and take care and spend time with his 2 beautiful children....

But for him to feel confident and safe he needs these adaptions. I really really hope yous can all help.. also if you aren't it's totally ok, I understand completely... I know how hard the times are.

I am going to post his story below and we will give updates on his progress.

I hope yous can help, take care and stay Safe.

Stephens story -
On the 21/10/2023 let's just say my whole life changed..Myself and a few of my family members went to a restaurant to have something to eat and a few drinks, thought we treat ourselves after a long week of working. At around 12pm I left the building and decided to have a smoke before getting a taxi, I decided to sit on a wall that at the time seemed very safe
It was an old stoney wall that had bushes and what looked like trees behind it.. so it didn't seem like anything dangerous.... It's seems I was very wrong.. As I went to sit down I leaned back to relax and didn't reliase how wrong I could be about how dangerous it actually was. Behind me wasn't loads of bushes and trees but weeds that had grown up the wall and little did I know that behind this wall was a 30ft drop and at the bottom was an out of commission train tracks I fell from 30ft and landed on the dead tracks.. I was knocked unconscious and lay there in the rain, wind and cold for over 6 hours.. I came to and couldn't even begin to think what was wrong... I started yelling for help , hoping someone somewhere could hear me. I attempted to move myself but the pain was excruciating and I noticed there was something wrong with my back and legs.. after what felt like hours I heard the voice of someone who was able to see me and contacted emergency services ( An angel I like to say) after being airlifted to the RVH, it was identified that I had broken many bones in my spine and my body, I had serval broken ribs, a bleed in the brain, a collapsed lung, and a broken pelvis plus numerous cuts and bruises. Due to the damage to my spine i required emergency spinal surgery as they established they needed to install metal bars into my back to try and stabilise the spine. At this stage it was identified that from my lower chest down I had no feeling and couldnt move my legs.

During surgery I required a blood transfusion due to the loss of blood unfortunately my body seen this as a problem and I took an allergic shock..but worse was to come... Whilst placing the bars in my spine I took a serve asthma attack... I coded and was gone for 5 seconds with the help of amazing surgeons and doctors they were able to get me back. As my body had been through so much damage and I was in critical condition I was moved to ICU for a few weeks.

For the 1st few days I was sadated as the asthma attack wouldn't shift and for over 24 hours my body was in an attack. Once breathing on my own and able to take in child's.. I was moved to a ward where I stayed for over a month.

From there I was moved to Musgrave Spinal rehabilitation centre and from here I have been learning skills to help me in my new way of life... I am learning simple and complicated tasks and trying the best I can. Alot of days are hard and mentally draining, but I have so much to live for and so much more Todo in my life and being able to be the best dad I can be to my beautiful kids.

Over the last few months I have been suffering from serve spasms and these are preventing me from doing even the smallest of tasks, but I try every single day no matter the obstacle I keep trying. Apart from spasms I Unfortunately suffer from chest Infections and other infections... Before the accident I could have probably dealt with these with a good antibiotic but now I need alot more care and higher doses of mediciation. It also keeps me bed ridden for days depending on how my body fights the infection off.

I still have a long way to go, but I am so happy with the progress that I have been able to make and I will continue Todo my best.
