Helping students in Malawi have access to Books
Tax deductible
YouthCare Ministries High school, an Urban Promise affiliate in Africa, was established in 2017 to provide quality education to the under-resourced communities of Lilongwe, Malawi.
One of the school's goals is to reduce the high illiteracy rates which greatly affects the quality of education in the country. The school has a small library that serves as a resource center for the community. However, it is furnished with limited textbooks which are not enough to address the challenges the community faces in its fight against illiteracy.
The few available textbooks are outdated and are not included on the Education's board required syllabus. As a result, the bookshelves in the library are almost empty.
Our goal is to furnish the library with 500 textbooks which will cultivate a reading culture amongst our students. The school's enrollment has fallen due to the insufficient reading materials at the facility, as it does not have the resources to currently support the number of students that are in need of a quality education.
I currently support 3 students at this school, but every kid that is enrolled needs our support. When I visited the campus, all the students were enthusiastic about learning and I was met with countless stories of their plans for the future. Let’s make their dreams easier to achieve by providing them the resources they need to become successful. No matter how small the donation, when children know that others are invested in their success, their dreams become reality.
