Helping support Bones (Boniface Kongin)
Donation protected
Calling out to all friends, families, acquaintances, runners, athletes and virtually anyone who is able and willing to lend a helping hand! Boniface “Bones” Kongin, an elite marathon runner from Iten, Kenya who considers Duluth, MN his second home is in need of our help and support.
Through Brian and Tina Nelson, Bones has become our friend, neighbor and member of our community. Brian and Tina have not only supported him often throughout his career in the U.S. as an elite marathoner, they have recently opened their home to him during this COVID19 pandemic. Bones returned to Duluth after dropping out of the Los Angeles Marathon in March due to a hamstring and achilles injury at the halfway point. Furthermore, he is virtually stranded. Unable to return to Kenya for an undetermined timeline and away from his Parents and five Sisters. Although this time is difficult for many, imagine being in another Country, away from your family without the ability to tap into a familiar support system.
Bones has placed well in several marathons which lead to him winning the Pittsburgh and Montreal Marathons and Duluth’s very own Grandma’s all in 2019. As an elite marathoner, he relies on these events to not only support his own housing and daily needs but that of his family in Kenya. Unable to participate in events for an undetermined period of time due to the pandemic, he is not able to readily care for his or his family’s needs. Therefore, we are asking for your kindness and generosity to help make a difference for our fellow friend and neighbor. He not only values, but is very proud of his Duluth family and friends he has met during his many stays here. So let's make a difference during this difficult time and show our support for Bones and his family!
May you all stay safe and well and we thank you in advance for your kind heartedness toward this effort!
Bless you all during this Easter season!
