Helping Susie Fight

My Sue has cancer. Truth is, I ignorantly thought she was mine until she received her diagnosis and started a group message full of people who love her like I do. Now I know she’s a beam of light in many people’s worlds.

Susie is first and foremost Mom to 4 amazing, active boys, and wife to her sweetheart Joe. Sue has also touched so many lives in her teaching career and is without question the most real and loyal person I’ve ever known. So many of us have the honor of having Sue in our circle.

On October 25th, Sue was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Grade 3, Stage 3 or 4. In her very first message to others, her words were ‘get your mammogram!’ In true Susie fashion, her concern was for others. She has a long road ahead of her and she’s prepared to fight like the superhero she is.

How do those of us who love her, help her? Her husband, Joe, is on this journey with her. It’s the ‘in sickness and in health’ part of his vows that will propel him forward. The rest of us carry this sense of helplessness. And so…this Gofundme has been created.

Sue and Joe’s journey through this season is just beginning. Money can’t buy happiness, that’s for certain, but it can provide relief of stress during the time Susie is away from work.

When I asked Sue if it was okay to start this fundraiser, she said ‘I can’t do that. I’m nothing special. I’m just me.’ So let’s add humble to the list of words to describe our Sue.
