My name is Heather. I’m 39 years old and I almost became a widow on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

My husband, Ron and I, have been married for almost 10 years. We share two beautiful young boys and both have amazing kids from previous relationships.

On May 10, 2023, Ron went in for a colonoscopy after having rectal bleeding for quite some time. We went in believing it was an internal hemorrhoid and we came out with the fact that he had a malignant tumor in his colon.

We followed up with a surgeon who put us on the path of radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.

Two days later on May 25, Ron started hemorrhaging blood from his rectum. He contacted the surgeon’s office and we were told to get him to the hospital asap. We called an ambulance and made our way to the hospital.

By the time Ron was able to get to a room in the emergency department, his vitals were dropping. He was filling bed pan after bed pan of blood. They tried putting a large capsule with lidocaine and epinephrine where the mass was to try and stop the bleeding. It didn’t work. He just passed it.

By this time 3 colorectal surgeons and 3 nurses were in this tiny room with us. One was starting blood and one of the surgeons put in another capsule. His blood pressure was 77/47. There was no air in the room as everyone watched his vitals cycle after he was receiving blood, glucose, fluids and the second capsule had been place. It was the longest 5 minutes of my life.

His vitals improved and everyone took a breath.

We spent from Thursday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon in the hospital.

We were on a roller coaster of emotions as we were given not so good news, scary news, good news, the worst news imaginable, better news and then good news. They were giving us their opinions without testing to back it up. It was devastating.

We now know he has stage 3 colorectal cancer. A miracle was given when it was found out that it has not metastasized. We were told today, 6/1, for the first time that he is curable.

He will be going through chemo with radiation for 5 weeks, Monday- Friday. During this time, he will not be able to work.

He is, and has been, the sole provider for our family. He has proudly built a business up for himself and loves what he does. Being a small business owner means that if you don’t work, you don’t get paid.

I’m asking for donations to ease financial burdens while we fight this cancer. I never in a million years saw myself reaching out for help for something like this.

Our family appreciates anything and everything that you can offer- even just prayers, good thoughts and kind words.

Thank you is not enough to show what we feel for everyone that has reached out and shown us love.

But, I’ll say it anyway. Thank you. From all us.
