Helping the Stephens Family with medical expenses
Donation protected
Hello I'm Ashley, I have created this GoFundMe due to my husband Jon's medical condition.
Jon's health has been declining pretty rapidly over the past 6 months. He is on oxygen 24/7, he has diabetes, neuropathy and a few other medical conditions that have limited him pretty severely from living his life the way we would like. With all of this his mobility is not what it used to be and has caused many falls over the past few months.
On Tuesday 4/2/24 this week, he had 2 falls back to back and he hadn't been feeling well since then. He was complaining of a fever even though he didn't have one, he was vomiting, out of breath even while on the oxygen, had 2 seizures and a few other symptoms happening.
On Thursday morning after the second seizure, I noticed his lips were blue and his O2 stat was 55 while still on the oxygen. I knew something was wrong. I took him to the ER up the street and on the way there he was complaining of chest pain and went into what I thought at the time was a seizure.
Once we were seen in the ER and had a ton of testing was done, he was admitted to the ICU. It was found that he has a collapsed lung with pneumonia, had a heart attack at some point but they don't know when and has stage 4 kidney disease. He is on a ventilator at this time and it is helping him breathe 100% as he cannot do it on his own right now. He is in REALLY bad condition.
With all of this being said, today his kidneys went from functioning at 18% up to 20% and he is producing urine which is amazing news. He is definitely not out of the woods yet but this is progress we needed.
We have a very long road ahead of us filled with lots of visits with specialists, lots of new medications and possibly the need of having very expensive medical equipment for him to be home with his family. With his worsening medical conditions he had to stop working and I have been covering all expenses which has been really hard. Not to mention Jon does not have medical insurance for medications, hospital visits or really anything other than regular Dr appt. We don't qualify for Medicaid even with just my income so as you can imagine things are very tight financially.
His room alone in the ICU is $9,000 per night not including any of the testing, equipment or medications he is being given to keep him alive.
I have created a go fund me page with the hope that if anyone has the means to help out financially they can. This will help take a huge burden off of me when I am try to focus on making sure Jon is ok and caring for our daughter Kimber.
There are still a ton of unknowns at this time so I will try to keep updates coming.
