New Knees for Tilly
Help us fund the surgery to fix Tilly’s knees.
Meet Tilly, a sweet 3-year-old Rottweiler who loves belly rubs, has a zest for life and loves to smile!
Tilly arrived in the shelter in February as a stray picked up in the Tweed area.
Sadly for dear Tilly, she was never claimed by her owners and as we began to ready her for adoption, we noticed her strange gait and brought her for an assessment to Loyalist Veterinary and Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation services, one of the clinics we work with regularly.
The report was not what any of us had been hoping for –
Tilly has torn the cruciate ligaments in both knees ( the equivalent of human acls). This injury is the number one orthopaedic problem in dogs.
We’re keeping her calm in one of our foster homes for now but its hard to ask a young dog to stop having fun.
If Tilly continues to walk on these damaged knees, she will develop compensation patterns to stabilize herself and this compensation can further damage the joints and lead to a lifetime of pain and arthritis.
The only solution is surgery to change the biomechanics of the knee joints, followed by physiotherapy.
With this surgery and proper follow up, Tilly will be able to return to chasing balls and going for long walks with whoever is lucky enough to adopt her.
As a charity devoted to helping animals in need and funded mostly by fundraising and donations, we do not have the budget to cover the costs of this surgery on our own.
Help us raise $10,000 to cover the costs of Tilly’s surgery and physiotherapy.
