Helping with Jessica’s funeral and medical expense

Donation protected

a friends mom has passed away, and they are in need of help to help with the bills and most of funeral expenses to get her mom back to Texas for her final resting spot. This is their story:

Mom was diagnosed with NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) in 2004. Her prognosis was normal and it did not affect her day to day life. She was able to work and enjoy a fulfilling life. Until 2008/2009 when she started to get very sick. She was plagued with fatigue and bowel issues. This put a once hard working strong woman out of work. Thats where mom's battles began with doctors and state insurance. In 2014 after joining a community indigent care and fighting to be heard Mom was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. In true Jessica fashion she fought like a warrior to get medical help and have her cancer removed. Everything went as planned and she was on a road to recovery and undergoing chemo. In the winter of 2015 her health took a turn. With only a couple of chemo treatments left Mom started to develop varices. The doctors moved quickly to help mom. Her oncologist stopped chemo and she was watched closely. This is when Mom learned just how much damage the chemo had done to her liver. Her NASH escalated to cirrhosis and the bigger battle began. She suffered frequent episodes of hepatic encephalopathy as well as uncontrollable type 2 diabetes. Mom fought for her right to live from then on. She fought on and dealt with humiliating incontinence, bloating, memory loss, and even frequent hospital visits to keep the encephalopathy at bay. She was shooed away by countless specialists for lack of insurance and denied over 13 times in texas for disability and medicaid. After much rejection and no hope from doctors in Texas Mom moved to Missouri with me in October 2020. Upon arriving in Missouri she finally could sigh in relief. She received compassionate care through Mercy hospital in Springfield Missouri. The hospital even helped her start her applications for medicaid and disability. She received all the medical care she had been missing out on and had doctors who worked hard to help her in her battle without sending one bill while she waited for health insurance. Sadly the wait was too long and the liver transplant hospital would not accept her without insurance. She was rejected once again. Moms body succumbed to hepatic failure on February 18th 2021. She was hospitalized with hepatic encephalopathy once again. We got the news a week into her hospital stay that she could not be stabilized and wouldnt survive much longer. We made the tough decision as a family to stop the fight and let Mom go in peace. Her suffering ended on February 28th at 11:45 am. She was surrounded by her husband and children, niece and brother, life long friends till she took her last breath. She was a fighter til her last breath and a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately her passing was not expected so suddenly and we are scrambling to afford a funeral and burial. Anything would help. Mom was a beautiful soul that impacted anyone she encountered in her short life. She may have been robbed of justice and life but she was a positive light for her family and friends til the end.
