***PLEASE READ THE LATEST UPDATE!!!***
Hello everyone, my name is Jodi Bell and I am a dear friend of James’s. For those of you that know James Robayo, you know that he is passionate about music, is wildly funny, and MOST passionate about his son James (who everyone knows as “Hammerson”, which is what his dad James and many others call him). For those of you who don’t know James, I can tell you that he’s one of the most amazing, gracious people you’ll have the pleasure of knowing. A “give the shirt off his back“ kind of guy, to summarize: James is a radio host, veteran, a widower, fun loving, big hearted and a lover and supporter of all local music.
His Passion:
But most of all, he’s a father who wants to care for his son in the best possible way, and give him the best possible chance at life that he can. With all that his son has already faced, what matters to James is to get his son to a successful place in life, and to be able to beat all of the odds that are already stacked against him.
The Past:
Unfortunately, James has endured health problems for quite a few years now. More specifically, he has endured and survived two aortic aneurysms – and these are often fatal and very high risk. But again, he has miraculously survived TWO of these previously and defeated all odds!
The Story:
Sadly and shockingly, several months ago he was diagnosed with yet another defect, but this time a “Triple A” (abdominal aortic aneurysm ) which is CRITICAL. However, this time it would be different – the location and the size makes this one the most difficult—and high-risk—yet. It has taken a team of many, many doctors including a cardiothoracic surgeon, cardiologist, vascular surgeon, etc. to come together and comprise a plan to remove this aneurysm as carefully and meticulously as possible.
The Upcoming Surgery:
The doctors met with James last week and told him their plan for this incredibly delicate, invasive, high-risk surgery. The surgery itself will be on September 18th, and will be more than 11 hours long. His recovery will be very long and difficult as he expects to spend 4 to 6 weeks in the hospital afterwards (initially staying in the ICU), but most of all, the potential side effects are what is most daunting. There’s an 80% chance that he may lose the use of his legs, and a 50% chance that he will have to live on dialysis for the rest of his life. But with a lot of hope and prayer, we will just speak into existence that he will NOT have to endure either of those side effects.
What He Needs:
But the reason I’m writing this is because he needs your help. The impact you can make on both him and his son’s lives will be immeasurable. Due to living on a fixed, limited income, donations from you all will provide a sense of financial security to James and his son during what is obviously an incredibly stressful time. And compounding that is the fact that he is a single father. As we speak, he is waiting to be approved for disability, which could take quite some time to be approved for. Your donations will go towards general living expenses, groceries, bills, necessities, etc. The donations will also cover the physical rehabilitation that will be needed and required following his surgery that is not covered. And of course, it will help pay for any other hospital or medical bills that are not covered as well.
Our Thanks:
James has always been a supporter of his musical community, promoting and sharing benefits being held for friends who are going through similar situations, so any support from you would be so very appreciated by him and his son. As I said before, this is incredibly difficult situation both emotionally and financially, and you all can help lessen the stressors that are on his shoulders by graciously donating. As cliché as it sounds, it is so very true—literally every dollar counts, and would mean the world to James, and to those of us that love him. We thank you in advance, and ask that you PLEASE share this fundraiser on your social media.
**As an aside, I will be the caretaker/legal guardian of “little James” (Hammerson) in the process, and will be in direct contact, if not physically with, big James throughout this entire recovery process. So if any of you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me via Facebook, and I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. And I will also come back here to provide updates on his condition and how he is doing.
Also, all funds donated (minus GoFundMe’s fees) will go directly into James’s bank account and to James himself, and will not exchange hands whatsoever. I in no way have part in the funds raised, other than coordinating and sharing this fundraiser.**
Lastly, if any of you have ideas for various fundraisers for James, or holding a benefit in his name, PLEASE contact me through Facebook and I will absolutely help coordinate it!
God bless you all, and again we thank you in advance for your MUCH needed donations and support.
With our sincerest gratitude,
Jodi & James
