Dear friends and family ,
The last 12 to 15 months have jolted us as a family like no other time before. We have had to depend on the grace of God and the love of people to be here today. We are beginning to see stability for our family and are trying to rebuild.
We are proud of ourJane and the big steps she has taken. We have been absolutely amazed by the support of her siblings. Dirk and I are beginning to think about the future again.
For me, this means planning a trip to see our friends and children in Uganda. This journey will take me back to a place where I find peace and healing. It has been almost 7 years since I have been to see our Ugandan friends and family.
I will spend time with Faith Kunihira in Jane's village, Kaihura and with Michael Okwakol and his family. I will also visit Agape Children's Village and Koreng. Another very important part of this trip is to support our daughter Edith as she travels back to find her biological family.
This trip is personal as far as relationships are concerned, but it is also very important to Embrace Uganda as this marks our 10th year. As most of you know, Embrace Uganda is a 100% volunteer organization providing clean water, medical care and education for some of the 2.3 million orphans in Uganda.
It is critically important that I document our work over the past 10 years as well as meet with leaders on the ground to begin to plan the next 10 years. I will also be spending time with the precious children we serve to love on them and see how they are progressing! These will be my main focuses as I visit the three communities we serve.
My goal is to raise $10,000 of which $3,000 will cover my trip expenses. The other $7,000 will help:
* Provide respite for caregivers who often work 7 days a week, 24 hours a day taking care of between 10-15 children or babies.
* Provide clean drinking water for children.
* Support teachers who have approximately 100 children in their classrooms.
As a result of last year's events we don't have any financial reserves or savings. I'm stepping out in faith and hoping that our family and friends will help me go to serve in Uganda this year.
