Help Mia's fight against Leukemia (ALL)

Hello, my name is Mia Romero Sánchez. I was born in Malta, Europe, on September 30, 2022. I am 1.5 years old and although my parents are Colombian, Malta is now our home. I love eating pasta, the rice that my mother prepares and pizza. My favorite activities are going to the park with my parents and playing on the swings. I love going to the beach and dancing to Cocomelon music.

One day in March of this year, I started having trouble walking. My parents took me to the hospital, where they did bone and muscle tests, but everything went well. However, I still couldn't walk at all. My parents took me to see several pediatricians until finally one of them ordered more tests. In one of those tests they discovered that I had problems with my white blood cell count, and on April 11 I was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). I started chemotherapy on April 15 and was admitted to the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Center in Malta.

This has been a very difficult time for me, my parents, and my entire family. I really miss playing outside with the street kittens and dogs, and most of all, my friends from daycare. Due to my treatment, which will last 2.5 years, I won't be able to return to daycare and play with my friends during this period. Each day presents a new challenge. Some days I feel really good, while others are tougher, but I always remember to smile.

My parents have been unable to work for the past few months because I have been in the hospital. To help with the expenses that have accumulated since my diagnosis, my aunt Carolina and her husband Willie, who live in the United States, have organized this fundraiser to support my family.

Please note that since GoFundMe is not available in Malta, the funds will be directed to my aunt's bank account in the United States. From there, 100% of the funds will be transferred directly to my parents. This money will cover with both of my parents unpaid leave for these months, rent, movilization, medicine, etc.

Hola, mi nombre es Mia Romero Sánchez. Nací en Malta, Europa, el 30 de septiembre de 2022. Tengo 1.5 años y aunque mis papás son colombianos, Malta es ahora nuestro hogar. Me encanta comer pasta, el arroz que prepara mi mamá y la pizza. Mis actividades favoritas son ir al parque con mis papás y jugar en los columpios. Amo ir a la playa y bailar con la música de Cocomelon.

Un día en marzo de este año, comencé a tener problemas para caminar. Mis papás me llevaron al hospital, donde me hicieron exámenes de huesos y músculos, pero todo salió bien. Sin embargo, seguía sin poder caminar del todo. Mis papitos me llevaron a ver varios pediatras hasta que finalmente uno de ellos ordenó más exámenes. En uno de esos exámenes descubrieron que tenía problemas con el conteo de glóbulos blancos, y el 11 de abril fui diagnosticada con leucemia linfoblástica aguda (LLA). Comencé la quimioterapia el 15 de abril y fui internada en el Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Center en Malta.

Esto ha sido muy triste para mí, mis padres y toda mi familia. Extraño mucho jugar afuera con los gatitos y perritos de la calle, y sobre todo, a mis amiguitos del jardín. Ya no podré volver al jardín y estar con mis amiguitos por el resto del tratamiento, que durará 2.5 años. Cada día es una lucha diferente. Hay días en los que me siento muy bien y otros en los que no, pero nunca olvido sonreír.

Mis padres no han podido trabajar en estos meses porque he tenido que estar internada en el hospital. Por eso, mi tía Carolina y su esposo Willie, que viven en los Estados Unidos, han creado este fundraiser para apoyar a mis papitos con todos los gastos que han tenido desde mi diagnóstico.

Nota: Dado que GoFundMe no está disponible en Malta, los fondos llegarán a la cuenta bancaria de mi tía en los Estados Unidos y de allí se transferirán directamente a mis papitos.
