Meet Molly: A 6 month old Pit Bull who loves life. She also loves children, belly rubs, face licking, other dogs and napping on the nearest lap!
Most of the people she meets can't believe she's a Pit Bull, because they have been misguided into thinking Pit Bulls are vicious animals. Through her sweet and genuine demeanor, Molly has been successfully educating and melting everyone around her.
Unfortunately, Molly has a grade IV/V left basilar systolic heart murmur, and her echocardiogram revealed that she has severe pulmonic stenosis.* Essentially, blood is not flowing from her heart and into her lungs properly, causing the right heart to enlarge.
She has medicine to help ease some of the discomfort, but with medication alone Molly's condition will only worsen, and she doesn't have a lot of time. She is not expected to live a long and healthy life unless she recieves a very expensive, but very necessary surgery.
The Veterenary team at the University of Pennsylvania determined Molly needs a balloon valvuloplasty surgical proceedure to relieve the obstruction. The estimated cost of the proceedure is $4,500, if uncomplicated.
Molly brings joy to everyone she touches. Although her heart is weak, it is full of love. She is truly an ambassador for her breed, showing critics and disbelievers everywhere that Pit Bulls are kind, gentle, loving dogs who have been given a bad reputation by bad people. They are the underdogs, the misunderstood, the forgotten. And they all deserve better.
Please help Molly. She needs your support more than ever. By helping Molly live, you are also helping to end breed discrimination, and giving other dogs just like her a chance at finding their forever home.
Thank you,
Molly's family
*severe pulmonic stenosis is a defect where the artery on the right side of her heart is narrowed, causig obstruction to the blood flow moving out of her heart and into her lungs. If left untreated, right sided heart failure can occur, leading to fluid accumulation in her abdomen. Arrhythmias, ultimately leading to sudden death, is also likely in a situation like Molly's.
