Help Save Saint Gabriel's Parish
Donation protected
Saint Gabriel's Parish is one of the oldest churches in the Montreal, Qc area and the first church in the city of Pointe-Saint-Charles. It has been a second home to tens of thousands of parishioners both local and foreign alike and at 141 years old, has seen its fair share of harsh Canadian winters and hot Montreal summers.
The Eastern tower, which was most likely degraded by a fire years ago, has now become unstable. As the large stone slabs shift from their original position the potential for them to fall on those below increases and thus poses a potentially severe risk to those in and around the building.
Current estimates from various contractors for a full repair of the Eastern Tower place the total cost of repairs somewhere between $300,000 and $400,000 CAD.
ALL proceeds will go DIRECTLY to funding the repair of our Eastern Tower. Should we exceed our goal the extra money will be used to repair other aspects of the building that need repair as well.
Since its construction Saint Gabriel’s has acted as a community centre and place of worship for thousands and thousands of men, women and children spanning multiple generations. From dinners to bazaars to plays and concerts the parish has been a beacon to not just the community of Pointe-Saint-Charles but other surrounding communities as well.
While this is a monumental amount of money for any one individual or parish to pay for on its own we are looking to you to aid us in our time of need to keep our aging parish standing. At 141 years old it is one of the older buildings in Montreal and tells a deep, rich religious and cultural history of both Pointe-Saint-Charles and the city of Montreal. Please don't let this historic building crumble and be lost to history but instead help it stand for future generations to cherish.
Tax receipts are given on request.
