Haku the Kitten: Fractured pelvis
Donation protected
In June 2015 we welcomed four kittens into the world; Mai, Arietty, Haku and Sooty, courtesy of mama cat Kiku. Unfortunately, 2 days later Sooty was diagnosed with a severe cleft palette and had to be put to sleep, which was heart breaking but at least she was at peace.
The other three kittens have continued to grow and thrive in their new home, chasing flies and leaves around the garden and sleeping in one big pile. Haku is the biggest of the kittens being the boy and is by far the friendliest and most loving cat I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His favourite spot is sprawled out across my fluffy blanket or at the window watching dogs and cars go by. As the kittens are now 6 months old, we had them spayed and their vaccinations completed so they could go and play outside. We eased them into it slowly and before long they were playing over at the park, climbing to the tops of trees and chasing each other around the pond!
On the 22nd of December, Haku was playing out for a lot longer than usual and my mum went to find him to give him his evening fish. She looked for a while and finally found him huddled under my Nans's car, unable to use his back legs. We rushed him straight to the vets (Four Paws, who were brilliant) and they took some x-rays and discovered that his pelvis had been shattered from being hit by a car going at speed. The back of his pelvis is in pieces and he has displaced one of the weight bearing points. Stupidly, we didnt think to insure the kittens as they are so young and had only just started going outside. So following vet bills of around £200 for the initial diagnosis, we were told that to have surgery to fix his pelvis, it could be in the region of £2000.
Update: As of the 24th (Christmas Eve) we have been told that he is healing remarkably well and and if his progress continues, we may be able to bypass the operation! Obviously there are stilll so many medical costs to go, so any help is so appreciated, but the relief and hope right now is so so welcome!
As a family we get by, but this amount of money really isnt readily available to us, with myself and Jack coming out of University and only having a part time job due to the seasonal nature of my job. We are currently pooling our funds to see if we can manage to cover part of it but would like to see if anyone out there could help us save our poorly little man. We need to try and raise as much money as we can within the next two weeks to give him a chance. I know its so close to Christmas and everybody is short of money but please help us to save our little guy! We don't care about presents to open on Christmas Day, we just want Haku with us, healthy and happy.
Every little helps, no donation is too small, even if it's just pocket change! Thank you so much for reading and I really hope you have a lovely Christmas. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.
