HELP SAVE HIGH POINT AND PRESERVE OUR HIGH POINT NEIGHBORHOOD
On Monday, October 19th, 2015, a variance notice was placed at the dead end of our street. The Galloway School, a private school in City of Atlanta, has submitted an application for use permit and concurrent variances for a recreational field (Athletic complex)at the dead end of High Point Road in Sandy Springs, GA. This site would include 4 tennis courts, a softball field, a 55 space parking lot, a 2700 sq. ft. indoor batting facility, a concession stand with restrooms and other small accessory buildings. This land is zoned R3 and is located in the flood plain - right on the north banks of Nancy Creek. This development would cover 8.39 acres (88% of which is in the flood plain).
The south end of High Point Road in Sandy Springs, GA is home to a quiet residential neighborhood that is widely opposed to this idea. We are diligently working to save this parcel of land from development. There would be a huge impact on our neighborhood for the following reasons:
-Increased traffic on our street where our children play
-Increased speed on our street creating danger to our neighbors and pedestrians who walk here with no sidewalks
-Decreased property values in the area
-The removal of hundred of trees
-Possible impact on the flow of Nancy Creek downstream which could lead to future flooding in neighboring residential areas
-Increased noise from GA 400 and MARTA without trees to buffer the sound
-Open door to future variances to add permanent lights and sound system
-Increased traffic on an already crowded Windsor Pkwy.
-The Galloway School does not pay property tax so there would be no financial gain to the city of Sandy Springs to grant this application.
We would like use GoFundMe as a platform to continue to raise funds to pay for the attorney's fees, yard signs and traffic study fees that have been adding up over the past several months as we fought the proposed develpoment. We sought expert legal advice from a multiple attorneys, so that we could be as knowledgable and prepared as possible in order to fight this application from every possible angle. If possible, the neighborhood would ultimately like to see this land be kept as a green space.
