To family, friends and anyone else who may be reading this.
I am going to try to explain this as clearly, straightforward and unambiguous as possible. This sort of thing is very hard for me to write, however i am stepping up to the challenge to try to make a difference.
There may, or may not come a time in a person's life where they will be told that they have a terminal illness. Unfortunately, for my Uncle, Shane, that time has come at just the age of 40, and just a handful of years since becoming the father hes always dreamt of. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September and it has since metastasized to his lungs and abdominal cavity, giving him 3 to 4 months to live. Any treatment is very costly and will not extend his life beyond more than a month or two without him having to suffer severly throughout it.
When I was told this news very recently, it made me feel sick to my stomach. Shane's two sons (my cousins), Axl and Greyson who are 6 and 4 will not have their Dad to depend on, mentor them, or see them grow up at such a young age. It personally kills me to think of it, as my father is currently battling ALS and that situation is very hard for me to deal with, and i am 20. I could not imagine being as young as them and having to go through this sort of thing.
To further explain why i am writing this GoFundMe, Shane had split with the mother of his children, my Aunt Mary Jane (prior to knowing any diagnosis whatsoever) earlier this year so they are living separately. Since the diagnosis, my Aunt Mary Jane has stepped up and has been trying to support two separate household's bills as best she can on one income which is very, very difficult. Because of this, my Uncle Shane has been living with almost nothing. He uses a gas generator that is costly to run for little amounts of time when he can because he has no electricity (IN WINTER?!), he has very little food, no gifts to give his boys for Christmas, and is living alone with months to live.
With all this being said, I saw the opportunity to use my social media skills try to raise any money I could to help my Uncle Shane live the rest of his life comfortably as well as create a trust fund for his children.
I dont want anyone getting the wrong idea of what i am trying to do with this. I know Christmas is one of, if not the largest finanical burden for any family. The last thing i wish to do is to sit here and beg you for your hard earned money near this time. I hate it.
However, all i am asking, is if you have a few dollars to spare, it could make a WORLD of difference to people in need. If everyone reading this was able to donate just $1, we could have his electricity back on in no time. If you do not wish or cannot afford to donate, this is completely understandable and totally okay. Even just a share of this message is just as meaningful to Shane and his family.
I have set the goal at $2,000. Some of the money will be used for Christmas gifts for his sons, any more will go towards his electricity bill that i have been told is around $700 to have it paid up and re-connected. If we are able to raise anything more, it will go towards him doing fun activities with his children while he still can, and lastly into a trust fund for his sons. I am committed to helping my family as much as i can during this hardship and have pledged the first donation of $250.
Lastly, he nor his family has any idea i am writing or doing this. I really hope it will bring a smile to their faces because they really need one at a time like this.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and God Bless.
