HELP FOR SOMNANG

Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. The goal of our effort is to help a boy in Cambodia, so we feel that first we should give you some basic background information.
Cambodia is a country blessed with a rich culture, beautiful landscapes and some of the most wonderful people in the world. However, it is also one of the poorest countries in the world with one third of the population living on less than a dollar a day. The ones who are most affected are the ones that are most vulnerable, the children.
The Cambodian people have minimum social services
and rely on NGO's and the kindness of foreigners to help with the many things that we take for granted such as medical services, clothing, food and shelter. Many people will sponsor children through large professional organizations and charities and give a monthly amount of money . Sadly, often people do not realize that only a portion of the money donated out of the kindness of their hearts will find its way to benefit the individual.
Six years ago Emma and I met while volunteering at a childrens home in Phnom Penh. We decided to sponsor some children directly and become an integral part of their lives. We travel to Cambodia 2-3 times a year and we stay in touch and up to date via skype while we are in our respective homes in New York and London.
We pay for their school tuition, uniforms, books and other essentials. We also help their extended families with basic necessities such as rice and medicine.
We met Somnang at the orphanage when he was eight years old. He is now fourteen and has struggled with various health issues over the years including removing a tumor from the side of his neck when he was six. His father died when he was three and his mother could not take care of him and his two brothers and sister, so she left them with their grandmother. It was she who took them to the orphanage where we all met soon after. He is back living in his rural village with his granny and Auntie now as they were unable to care for him at the children's center.
Somnang has had some serious health issues since April including a hernia and a tumor located next to his heart.
He was scheduled to have the tumor removed last month when he was diagnosed with cancer. At the present time the doctors are deciding how best to treat him.
We would like to provide Somnang with the BEST possible health care, so he can get better and enjoy his life. The money raised via this fundraiser will go towards his treatment, medicine, transport, housing, healthy nourishing food and also post-care treatment.
Somnang is a wonderfully spirited boy with a very cheerful nature, who like all of us deserves the very best chance to have a full and happy life. We ask from our hearts that you support us on this journey.
Updates will be coming very soon as I will be in Cambodia next week to see Somnang and meet with the doctors.
Thank You :)
Love,
