Help Staphel Fight for His Life

The Niagara Migrant Workers Interest Group (NMWIG) is launching this fundraiser for Staphel Morris, a dedicated seasonal farm worker from Jamaica who is facing a life-altering challenge at just 33 years old. Since 2017, Staphel has been coming to Canada to work tirelessly on farms, providing food for Canadian families while being separated from his own. This year, while working in Niagara, Staphel received devastating news: his health is failing and he needs a liver transplant to survive.
Staphel’s Story
Growing up in Clarendon, Jamaica, as one of 11 siblings, Staphel is no stranger to hardship. Raised by a single mother who tirelessly worked to provide for their family, financial stability was a constant challenge. Motivated by the desire to forge a better future for himself and his loved ones, he enrolled in the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program - a program which enables Canadian farmers to hire foreign workers for temporary agricultural roles to meet seasonal labour needs when Canadians and permanent residents aren't available. Since then, Staphel has been coming to Canada each season, dedicating long hours to farm work, often putting his own well-being on the line to support those he cares about back home.
Unfortunately, after his diagnosis, Staphel's situation has become dire. Since June, Staphel has been unable to work due to his health challenges, creating significant financial strain. He worries about how he will support himself during treatment while also providing for his family in Jamaica.
In Jamaica, there are no viable treatment options or liver transplant programs available. Returning to Jamaica would be a death sentence, depriving him of the essential medical care he urgently needs. In Canada, doctors have confirmed that a liver transplant is essential for his survival, making immediate action imperative. Time is of the essence—his immigration status is set to expire on December 15, and we are actively working to secure an extension. Every moment counts as we strive to ensure Staphel receives the care he requires and deserves. This is why we need your help.
How You Can Help
We are raising funds to ensure Staphel has a safe place to stay during his treatment and to cover his ongoing care while he awaits a liver transplant in Canada. Every contribution brings him one step closer to a second chance at life. Your generosity will not only support his fight for health but also help him reclaim his dreams of a brighter future—one where he can start a family and return to work.
Thank you for taking the time to hear Staphel’s story. Please share this campaign with others, and let’s come together to support him in this critical moment. Compassion knows no borders, and your support can truly change his life. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for Staphel.
