Facaro at 'Dwell on Design' Fair

I'm asking for your help to showcase 'The CONNECT Series' of bicycle chain chandeliers at 'Dwell on Design', the biggest & most important design fair in the US. Just 1$ would be a huge help! If you have an extra 5$ - even better! With your help this little ship will sail!

I've been running Facaro (www.facaro.com), my small art business, for several years now with a flattering amount of success, for which I am incredibly grateful. It's been the most challenging venture I've ever taken on. I studied color theory and composition, not business, though my studies in aesthetics have provided the opportunity to learn all things business by actually doing it. Which, I might add, has been the most valuable teacher and has provided me with a unique entrepeneurial perspective. Fortunately, business has grown and my artistic & personal growth in stride. Showing my work at #dwellondesign would propel me towards exhilerating & yet unknown paths.

I'm frequently asked how I got the idea to make a bike chain chandlier. The development of 'The CONNECT Series' has been rooted in community since the very beginning. While attending art school, I lived in a 12 person collective in Denver, CO where in our kitchen, one of my roomates made a DIY pot rack out of a bike rim hung on it's side. I sat in my kitchen one day and got the idea to make a mobile out of bike parts which eventually led to the bike chain chandelier. The first one I made was for my BFA thesis exibition in December 2007 where I got best in show.

My first solo art exhibition was in Mexico City in July 2009. The art show almost sold out, press followed, and blog posts went viral. In August 2012, Facaro was featured by Etsy.  Because of Etsy's reach, that viral circulation gave the bike chain chandeliers the same amount of press in one year that it had in the previous three and I've been riding that wave of organic visibility since the summer of 2012. I'm honored to say that #theconnectseries has been featured in over 40 art & design publications and a few news spots all over the world! What?! I can't even believe it. The press that #facaro would receive from exhibiting at #dwellondesign would be an amazing addition to the list.

Business continued to grow and I started out 2014 with my good friend as a production partner and a 7 month waiting list. By July 2014, Lindsay and I were absolutely burned out. Lindsay, an artist herself, bowed out to pursue her own artistic endeavours and I took time off to reorganize, restructure, regroup, and forge on. My inadequate infrastructure at the time simply could not sustain the growth. Among others, the biggest challenge was simultaneously acoomodating multiple orders in a 250 square foot space. After a long & arduous process lasting 10 months I found a dream of a space 10 times bigger than before. My persistence to find solutions never waivered.

Over the course of the last year, through diligently building a strong foundation to accommodate scaling production in my new 2600 sq ft space, I have reinvested money into building it out and hiring one full-time assitant. That has meant that opportunities like having a booth at the dwell design conference is not quite within reach and won't be for another year or two. The booth rental at 'Dwell on Design' is $3000. No joke. That's a substantial amount of money to come up with on my own but they say many hands make a lighter load. I know it's a hefty sum and I can assure you that the work & effort I have been putting in and will continue to put in is 10 times that.

Throughout the last four years I've earned the lessons in every aspect of business necessary to enter the next stage. The simplest way to put it is this - showing my work at 'Dwell on Design' would exponentially accelerate the visibility of 'The CONNECT Series'. I now have the infrastructure, both experiential and practical, to support it.

I would not have gotten this far without the help of my community. From encouraging words, to proofreading, to advising, to lending a hand or a ride or a truck to transport chandeliers, to donating work space, to the person who suggested just this morning that I attend Dwell - I have greatly benefitted from all the support along the way. Thanks to all of you who have helped me so far - I can't begin to list who you are (Gracias Ma'!).

I'm trying my absolute hardest to make this little ship sail and sometimes the winds are in my favor and more hands are on deck and other times, well, I've just had to captain my ship by my lonesome and prepare for when the winds pick up. Please help me generate that wind and jump on deck. Anything helps!

At this design fair I would be featured at the juried prime edition section that has an art gallery feel and showcases furniture, lighting, and art and is located right at the entrance! And, I'll be able to take orders and sell onsite! Heck, I may even have a few sales and pay you guys back!

There are two booths left and are first come, first serve so I'd need to pay for it as soon as possible.

$3000 for the booth
$1500 for transportation rental, set up, labor assistance and a the production of a new form with a brand new surprise element.
