On 16 July James Thorp and his wife Taylor were involved in an horrific car accident in Oregon USA. Sadly Taylor passed away at the scene. During the accident James was thrown from the car and is in a serious condition in hospital in the USA with multiple fractures, both lungs and his spleen punctured.
James will be repatriated to Australia and will face a long rehabilitation in a specialised facility. He won't be able to weightbear for 12 weeks or more. It is unknown when he will be able to work again. He will require extensive ongoing physio, hydro and occupational therapy for greater than 12 months that will only be partially funded by medicare. He does not have any income protection.
Above all James is a great friend to many of us and will greatly appreciate your gesture of support.
As the campaign organiser my name is Jen Brown. I'm from Hobart Tasmania and I am part of the Tasmanian kayak community of which James is a valuable member. Our community recognises James as a friend, beautiful person and strong contributor to this amazing community.
I have put this fundraiser together for James to specifically assist his recovery and treatment process. The Tasmanian kayak community and all James's family and friends want to see him recover as quickly as possible. I understand James will face a number of ongoing expenses some of which are listed above. The $20,000 we aim to raise will include replacing his lost income to allow him to focus on treatment and healing. James has suffered the loss of his wife and he may also require assistance with grief and future's planning. We hope this fundraiser will help James in this difficult road to recovery.
James Thorp will be made a beneficiary of my page and receive all the funds you donate directly from gofundme.
