Turner Family

Please help my family support my older sister Misty Turner, her husband Sterling Turner and four daughters; Noni, Gabby, Deanna, and Kailee. They were in a roll over accidence driving to California to visit family on August 27th, 2016. Two of their children were careflighted to LA Children’s Hospital, one in serious condition. Her family will need to remain in LA for a few weeks for surgeries and recovery. I am asking for any support, recommendations of resources, and prayers. They lost their only means of transport and will eventually need help to return to Fort Worth, Texas. I will post more information on their progress ASAP. Thank you, from my entire family.


Update 08/28/2016:

Kailee (4) has a large laceration on her arm extending from her thumb to elbow. She has had one surgery so far but will also require more this week. She is stable, awake, and currently rewatching minions the movie for the 5th time or so. She is laughing, playing with her sisters, mother, father, and other family members.



Deanna (9) is currently in the Pediatric ICU at CHLA. She slipped out of her seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. They found her under the roof of the van. Sterling lifted the vehicle off of her and misty pulled her out from under. She has suffered multiple lacerations to her thigh and has a fractured pelvis. She has already had one surgery to close some of her lacerations but she will remain in the PICU and require multiple surgeries over the next week or two. She has an extensive medical and surgical team following her and they are providing amazing care. We will know more about her progress after tomorrows surgery but they are guessing she will remain in the hospital for more then two weeks. Her pain is being managed but she is in and out of consciousness. Her family is taking turns comforting her.

Both girls are very strong but we are praying for a speedy recovery.

Noni (12) and Gabby (10) are scraped, bruised, and a little shaken up but otherwise fine. They are trying their best to remain positive and uplift their younger sisters. They are going to remain in LA with their parents for the meantime. 


Misty and Sterling are overwhelmed with emotions but are focusing on the care of their children. They suffered from road rash and are still picking shards of glass out of each others arms. They are thankful of the outpouring support they have received from family and friends. They will continue to need support from us while they are piecing their lives back together.

Right now they are waiting for the Ronald McDonald House to have a room opening for the older girl
,lkls and parents to stay in. We are also working on getting them a vehicle to drive around LA and eventually back home in.

Update 09/03/2016

Kailee has had what will hopefully be her last surgery on 09/01. The surgeons replaced tendons that connected to her thumb and used skin grafts to finish covering her laceration. She recovered well from surgery and has been her happy, sassy, self since. They are hoping that she will regain complete use of her thumb with physical therapy. 


Deanna has three very large lacerations to her thigh and pelvic region and she has a fractured pelvis. She had surgery on 08/29 to help close some of her lacerations. The surgeons ended up temporarily closing one laceration, placing a wound vac in her thigh laceration, and giving her a temporary colostomy. Shortly after they transferred her out of the PICU and into the same room as her sister Kailee.

On 09/02 she had another very long surgery where they removed the wound vac and finished closing her lacerations using skin grafts. In between these surgeries she has had numerous X-rays, consults, nurses, rounds, pain meds, tears, wound changes, hugs, kisses, prayers, IV's, and questions. She is taking it day by day, task by task. 


Deanna has so much patience and strength. She has been so calm and accepting this whole time. Her body has changed drastically and she is still processing everything but she has remained positive the entire time. She asked everyday when they were going to remove her "nose tube" so she could eat and every day they would tell her soon. She never complained. Finally, five days after the accident, she was able to eat and drink. I asked her how her tummy felt and she said "excited". We then set up her doll and stuffed puppies and watched a "party movie" to "celebrate".  She has been so resilient it has been truly inspiring to watch her recover.


Deanna has come a long way and she still has such a long way to go. She is scheduled to remain at CHLA until Tuesday then possibly transfer to LA county for her pelvis surgery. A lot of things are still up in the air about her remaining surgeries but we will keep you updated. 

I want to give a big thanks to the Ronald McDonald House for providing the Turner family with a completely free two bed hotel and free shuttles back and forth to the hospital. There are giant fridges, a kitchen to cook in, games, grief counseling, and even cook outs. They have gone out of their way to provide families with the support they need to concentrate on caring for their loved ones in the hospital.

I also want to thank Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. We have met so many amazing doctors, nurses, surgeons, patient care techs, and other hospital staff. Thank you for answering our call lights, questions, and wiping our tears. This has been such a frightening and traumatic event and you have all worked so hard to heal these babies and mend this terrible situation.
