We’re moving! We’ve listed our property for sale and we’re looking for a new permanent home for all the rescued animals. Why are we moving now? Several reasons but mainly because the animals are being pushed from their home due to a zoning issue.
What are we first moved here in the summer of 2020 it was the height of the Covid pandemic and no one was in office to assist us with zoning questions. All we had to go by was the ecode listed on their website and our new neighbors who were on the land use board. We were told that animals were welcomed and we thought we were within the limits but the zoning officer continues to disagree. In 2022, 2 years after we’ve been established here, we got our first summons for zoning violations. Then we were told that we could get a variance in order to stay and keep all the animals here. We went forward with the application gave them $1000, but the application was rejected.
Instead of continuously trying to appease to their request, that will never be satisfied, we chose to address the court in hopes that we would get a compassionate judge to hear our case. However the case was dismissed in November 2023 due to the zoning officer’s repeated failure to appear in court and we thought we could move on with our lives. Until we got another notice in January 2024 now addressed to the sanctuary and not our personal names like previously. We decided to move forward with the hearing and hopefully see a judge to hear the case finally. The judge isn’t so understanding unfortunately and is ordering us to get a lawyer. So, we’re trying to work it out with the zoning officer to where we can agree to be off the property within a certain amount of time. All of this chaos over the last two years is the main reason why we are moving. Why would we want to continue to serve a community that doesn’t want us here?
There are other reasons like the environment. It floods horribly here and the parasitic bugs are really unhealthy for the animals.
We’re working close with a real estate agent that really understands our needs and we will not move anywhere else that won’t welcome all the residents of Marley Meadows. Please share our story and content so that we can get the help we need to move forward. Thank you!
