Hello! My name is Miguel Ortega! I am the book writer and producer of Henchmen: The Musical, a new musical being developed by rising composer Josh Goldhaber and myself. We are looking for funds to produce either an elevated reading or full production of our piece, which is planned to premier early June using a team of Drexel University students, alumni, friends and local talent! Me and Josh have been working on this project feverishly for the last year, and we are beyond ecstatic to get it off the ground and share it with the world.
Henchmen: The Musical is a two-act musical comedy that follows the story of Ollie Alabastor, a passive, life-loving 20-something from Oregon who moves to New York to find himself (as people tend to do) and, through the most absurd of circumstances, ends up becoming a henchman for the most notorious Super Villain in the world.
With your support, we'll be able to compensate the many people already involved in bringing this project to life.
And as we continue to gather more and more funding, we'll in turn continue to elevate the production quality of this piece, all the way to a full production.
The more money we receive, the more we'll be able to give the supremely talented crew and cast we've begun to assemble. Funds gathered from this platform will be allocated to one of the following areas:
- Hiring and compensating Actors, a Director, the Stage Management team, the Band and Stage Crew as necessary.
- Budgets for sound, costumes, props and minimalist set design.
- Paying artists for promotional designs, costumes and the playbill.
- Renting out space and mics for the reading.
If enough funds are gathered, we'll be also implement
the following:
- Hiring a Light, Scenic & Sound Designer to really make the vision of this show come to life.
- Renting out a theater space for us to tech and perform in.
- Further increasing how much money we are able to provide to our cast and crew.

I am truly excited about this project not only because I get to finally share all this work with all of you, but because I get to give so many talented friends of mine an opportunity to put their skills to the test and to showcase their craft. I am personally very passionate about representation and inclusivity in theater, and I want this show to be a demonstration of the grand variety of talent not only in Drexel, but in the entire Philadelphia theater scene. For some of the people involved, this might be their last time participating in theater at this scale, and I want to send them off with a bang.
