Herbie the dwarf hamster with his poorly leg

Hello! My name is Olivia and I am raising funds toward a leg amptutation surgery for my dwarf hamster Herbie.

My partner and I have already spent over £200 on numerous vet visits and medications for Herbie to try after we first noticed swelling on his leg. We went through both antibiotics and anti-inflammatories with the vet before they decided we would go for an x-ray where they decided Herb (his nickname) has a bone infection. The whole process has been really frustrating and costly because we feel it could have been dealt with better, give that the infection was likely caused by a break or something, that could have been diagnosed initially.

Herbs leg has gotten progressively worse and my heart is breaking that we are now struggling to help him. He moves on the leg fine but it is developing wounds and getting even bigger. We have already spent much but we decided to go to another vet to see what more we can do. They have recommended amputation, which is a very difficult expense after we have already spent a lot of money for us. We are prepared to pay for our pets but this has gotten so costly and I'm at a loss but I hate to see Herbie this way. Any donations at all are hugely appreciated because if we can even just make the cost smaller so we can pay the majority, that would be amazing.

Please note that Herb is so very cared for and how he could have attained any initial injury is baffling to us so please do not send any hate. We look after our hamsters so carefully and he has never had any high or sharp surfaces in his enclosure.
