Hereford Hospital Garden Benches

Hello, we're Glyn & Clare and we're raising £1100 to provide benches in the newly revamped garden for both hospital staff and patients.

On a recent visit to Hereford Hospital for an appointment we noticed how sad and neglected the courtyard garden looked. We decided to volunteer to transform the area and make it a more cheerful sight and space for both the staff and for patients. We weeded it and removed the rubbish, bought new plants for all of the planters and garden beds and renewed some of the gravel. The outpatient staffroom (which is very small) and the outpatient waiting area opens up on to this garden and we thought it would be lovely if there were some benches to sit on and enjoy some nature and fresh air.

Glyn had a heart attack in 2022. He was treated at Hereford Hospital and thankfully recovered, so we wanted to give something back to the community. We all at some point in our lives rely on our local hospital to help us or somebody we know, so we thought it would be a lovely contribution to give two benches, and more if possible, where people can sit in this garden and let it be a welcome and healing distraction in times of worry, shock or grief.

Since completing this courtyard, we have gone on to weed, tidy and plant up another one of the gardens in the hospital grounds - encouraged by patients watching from their windows who told us how much nicer their view now is!
