Jewellery Quarter Research Trust Virtual Tour
Donation protected
Who we are:
The Jewellery Quarter Research Trust, established in 2009, is a group of volunteers working to share the history and heritage of the Jewellery Quarter, especially the two historic cemeteries, Key Hill and Warstone Lane. We are dedicated to recording, preserving and promoting the cemeteries, safeguarding them and their rich heritage for future generations. We share the stories of the tens of thousands of people who, by their skills and determination helped make Birmingham the great city it is today, and we need your help!
What we are raising money for:
For the past 4 years we have welcomed over 350 people to our tours of the cemeteries. However, due to the government advice surrounding social distancing, we have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision not to deliver our annual event programme.
Instead we have had to re-imagine how tours can be delivered. We have identified the development of virtual tours, videos and live streaming to overcome the current obstacles. These will also enable people who do not live locally, and those who have impairments, which limit physical movement, to explore the cemeteries and engage in the history. In addition, we would be able to create a year-round offer of 'visits' to the cemeteries in colder months. To do all this we need your help to purchase a camera and digital equipment.
'We attended your very interesting walk around Warstone Lane yesterday. So much so, we had a trek around Key Hill too. Amazing work you are all doing...long may it continue!' - Karen Villa
'We shared a very informative tour of this important cemetery - with an insight into some of the founding figures that shaped our City. Lovely to keep its history going. More please! Well done to the organisers and all involved.' - Gaynor Pugh

We understand what difficult times we are all in and we want to show our appreciation and thanks for your support. Therefore, we have exclusive rewards in return for your donations.
£12 - A limited edition Jewellery Quarter Research Trust pin badge. Our pin badges were made by the Jewellery Quarter family firm, Fattorini, who famously made the FA Cup!
£50 - Receive a private tour of Key Hill cemetery for up to 8 people. Tours last approximately 1 hour and will be followed by the chance for a discussion with your expert tour guide.

About the Cemeteries:
The Grade II* and Grade II cemeteries are an important part of Birmingham's history and heritage. They are the last resting place of nine city mayors, of alderman, industrialists, ministers, politicians, a holder of the Victoria Cross, social reformers and many heroes of war and of reform, a British royal ancestor and the son of an aboriginal king.

More about us:
We are an entirely volunteer operated not-for-profit trust, reliant on donations. We have 160,000 records related to the Jewellery Quarter cemeteries available for everyone to access for free on our website. We have a team of research volunteers and we also publish research carried out by contributors - those who have used our website records in their own research.

We have collaborated with many other organisations including Newman Brothers Coffin Works, JQ Townscape Heritage, St Philip's Cathedral and Library of Birmingham. We also provide families, researchers, academics and students with biographical and cultural information.
