Shouldice will not take Medicare. The entire procedure with three days of clinic inpatient costs is $6000 and other costs to get to Toronto will be in the range of $500 for the flight. 

Driving is not a reasonable option. Driving back will be very uncomfortable for him after surgery. And it is a 26 hour drive, one way.
